Having problems with your roof but don’t know where to start? Here’s the inside scoop on how to avoid scams, rip-offs and shoddy contractors.
Choosing A Contractor
- Hire only licensed contractors.
- Local roofing supply companies are a great resource for references.
- Never trust a suspiciously low bid.
- Check current license status at the NV State Contractors License Board website or call them at (775) 688-1141
- Request Certificates of Liability and Workers Compensation Insurance sent directly to you by the insurer listing your name and address. A reputable contractor will request these for you.
- Ask for references and addresses of recent roof installations. Drive by and look.
- Get a detailed written contract. Be sure your contractor clearly explains all contract provisions and material choices.
- When comparing bids, be sure all materials, services and terms are equal.
- Avoid any contractor who asks to see your other bids. This is unethical, illegal and should be reported to the Contractors Board. If your roofer will cheat the competition, he’ll cheat you, too.

How To Tell If You Need A New Roof
Asphalt Composition Shingles
- Are the shingles curling or broken?
- Are the granules worn off the shingles?
- Are any shingles missing?
- Was your roof installed before 1996?
If you answered yes to any of the above then it’s time to reroof.
Shake Roofs
- Are the shakes curled or warped?
- Do they look dried out?
- Are any shakes missing?
- Can you see black paper between the shakes?
Shake roofs are an inherent fire danger. They cannot be restored by any surface coating or oil.
If you answered yes to the above then it’s time to reroof.
Tile Roofs
- Are any tiles cracked, broken or missing?
- Are any tiles loose?
If your roof is leaking, the underlayment is improperly installed or worn out and must be replaced. We can reline your roof with a premium product and install your original tile. It’s time to reroof.
